A bocce court looks like the easiest thing in the world to build. Flat rectangle, some crushed shell, a couple of boards around the edge. Then the first hard rain runs across it, or the surface dries out and cracks, and the ball starts kicking off line every time you roll it. What separates a court you will still be playing on in twenty years from one that goes lumpy in a season is entirely underneath the surface.
We are Legendary Sport Construction. For more than 20 years we have built sport surfaces across Southern Nevada and the Arizona desert, and bocce follows the same principle as everything we pour. The base comes first. A bocce court is really a layered drainage system with a playing surface on top, and out here in the desert, getting that layering right is what keeps the roll true.
The thing that makes bocce satisfying is a surface that plays fast, level, and predictable. That is delicate. A low spot the width of your hand will send a ball off its line, and a court that holds water after a storm will rut and wash. Our climate makes both problems worse. Native soil and caliche around Las Vegas, Henderson, and the Phoenix valleys do not drain on their own, and they shift with heat and moisture.
So we do not lay a surface on dirt and hope. We excavate down, install a compacted crushed-stone base for drainage and structural stability, and set the grade with just enough slope to clear water without you ever noticing it in your roll. Perforated drainage and filter fabric go in where the site calls for it, so a heavy monsoon does not stand on your court. On top of that goes the playing surface, built up in thin lifts and compacted between each pass until it is tight, smooth, and solid.
The perimeter boards are not just trim, either. They contain the surface, take the ricochet, and hold the whole court square, so we build them to last against constant sun rather than bolting on something that warps by the second summer.

Design. We start at your place. We measure your usable space and lay out a court that fits it, whether that is a compact backyard court or something closer to full regulation length. We check drainage, sun, access, and any HOA design-review requirements, which come up a lot in the Scottsdale and Henderson communities we work in.
Build. This is the part that matters most. Excavation, a compacted crushed-stone base graded for drainage, drainage provisions where needed, and then the playing surface. On surface we will talk through your options, from traditional oyster shell flour that packs into a fast, authentic roll, to decomposed granite, to synthetic bocce turf if you want the lowest upkeep. Every layer gets compacted properly, because a surface is only as true as what supports it.
Play. We hand you a level, true-rolling court that is ready the day we finish.
Maintain. A natural oyster-flour surface likes an occasional rolling, misting, and topping up to stay tight, and we will show you the rhythm of it. Prefer near-zero upkeep? A synthetic surface asks for little more than a brush and a rinse of desert dust. Either way, we are here for the life of your court.
We will also be straight with you about scale. Not every backyard needs a full regulation court, and a well-built compact court plays beautifully. We would rather fit the court to your space and how your family plays than push length you do not have room to enjoy.
